Saminisme is one of local beliefs that is officially recognized by governor in 2014. Samin is the name of the tribe in Blora, Central Java and the beliefs that they are worshipping is called Saminisme. This tribe is famous for how they were isolating themselves as the act of confrontation against colonialism back in the days. They even just knew that Indonesia finally independent in around 1970s.

Samin tribe took its name from the same name of the person that initiate this belief named Samin Surentiko. The members of Samin prefer to call themselves as ‘Wong Sikep’ instead of ‘Wong Samin’ since Samin has a negative meaning. Samin is considered as one of “Kepercayaan Nusantara” and has its own teachings based on the holy book named Serat Jamus Kalimasada that has more than one book, such as Serat Punjer Kawitan, Serat Pikukuh Kasajaten, Serat Uri-Uri Pembudi, Serat Jati Sawit, and Serat Lampahing Urip.

Most of Samin members religion are Islam but they believe that all religions are the same. Saminisme sounds just like other Javanese Religion, but what makes Saminisme is a unique belief is how they live in this modern life.

Saminisme and Five Main Principles

As the local belief, Saminisme has five main principles that are followed by its members. The five principles are: not going to school, using ‘iket’ instead of ‘peci’ as their head accessory, not doing polygamy, wearing knee-length pants instead of long pants, not doing trading and not following capitalism because they believe that trading come along with lying.

It is unique to find those principles in this time as people now lived in modern life and it seems impossible to not following capitalism. However, those principles are walking along with their five core beliefs. The first belief is to see religion as the handle of life and consider all religions are the same and the character of people are the most important instead of what their religion are. The second belief is do not fight with each other, do not envy, and do not take what other people have. The third belief is always be patient and do not be arrogant. The fourth belief is people have to understand the meaning of life because people only live once and Saminisme believe that life is only one and it goes forever just like how spirits are.

They also believe that people who are died are just like people who take off their clothes. The last belief is people have to be careful when they are talking, have to be honest and respect each other. Saminisme also has their own way in conducting their wedding. Samin members consider marriage as the holy activity and they do not need any person to conduct their wedding or lead them to read their wedding oath. When two Samin members are ready to be married, they read their wedding oath on their own and will never be separated until death.

Money and Wealth does not Guarantee Happiness in Life.

Saminisme lives as they are ready to dead and they never consider what the world has as their biggest goal, but they focused on their afterlife instead. People of Samin famous for not knowing any technology and will never want to do so. They prefer to walk instead of riding some vehicles no matter how far they are.

They also prefer to walk barefoot instead of using sandals or shoes. People of Samin consider modernization as the obstacle to reach their piece of life because people who working hard to reach their goal in the world tend to be less happier than those who enjoy their life the fullest. This way of thinking and the beliefs they follow proves that money and wealth does not guarantee happiness in life.
